Integral Color – How much Do You Need?
If you find calculating how much integral color you need to complete the job confusing, you are not alone. It is confusing and if you don’t need to do it often, it’s annoying. I’m going to break this down for you and make it as easy as I can.
These are the steps you need to take:
- Determine from your concrete supplier if it is a 4, 5, or 6 sack of cement per cubic yard that will be delivered.
- Determine how many cubic yards your job is.
If you don’t know how to calculate the cubic yards, here is a link to help you out. Consider 4” – 5” thick slab.

- Determine how many pounds you’ll need pursuant to your color choice?
Look on the color chart for the integral color and you will find the pounds required for your color. Darker colors will have higher pounds.
For example, let’s calculate Desert Rose as your Integral Color choice. Your job is 5 yards. The sack of cement per cubic yard is a 6 sack.
(Desert Rose is 2 pounds. 569 is the number of the color and not needed to calculate how much integral color you need.)
You will then multiply:
2 lbs (Desert Rose) x 6 (sack of cement) x 5 yards = 60 lbs of integral color needed.
